Dallas Mavericks: Kyrie Irving Sends Defiant Message Over Luka Doncic’s Poor Shooting in Game 4 Loss Vs. Clippers
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic did all they could for the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday. After being down by as much as 31 points against the Los Angeles Clippers in Game 4, the Mavs mounted a massive comeback that saw them fighting until the very end.

Unfortunately for Dallas, they ultimately came up short, losing 116-111, as the Clippers tied the series at 2-2.

Dallas Mavericks News: Kyrie Irving Reacts to Luka Doncic’s Poor Shooting

Luka Doncic produced a 29-point triple-double in this one, and the fact that it was still seen as a bit of an off-night speaks volumes of the greatness of the Mavs superstar. To be fair, Doncic did struggle from the field in Game 4, going just 1-of-9 from beyond the arc and 10-of-24 overall.

Kyrie Irving came up big yet again for the Mavs, though, going off for a game-high 40 points on 14-of-25 shooting, to go along with seven rebounds, five assists, and six triples on the evening.

After the game, Irving sounded off on Doncic’s poor shooting performance as he reminded everyone out there just how amazing his superstar teammate has been throughout the series:

“I know he wants to make a bigger impact than he is now, even though he’s almost averaging a triple-double for the series,” Irving said.

For the record, Doncic is now averaging 29.0 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 8.5 assists in this series. The MVP finalist, however, is shooting just 38.6 percent from the field. He’s been even worse in these last two games in LA, knocking down just 34.7 percent of his attempts.

As Irving implied, however, it would be foolish to think that Luka will continue to struggle in this series. You can be sure that Doncic will be out to prove a point come Wednesday night in Dallas.
